Calvin (Gilroy) The boys are just wonderful! Steve and I were just saying how it feels like they have been a part of our lives for longer than 5 months. TheyâÂÂve settled into our home so easily and were clearly cared for by their previous family. Calvin has a loud personality and loves to tell us all about the squirrels and other dogs in the neighborhood! And heâÂÂs very generous with his puppy kisses. Clark is a little more cautious around other people than we thought he would be, and he has every right to make that decision. But he is such a big love bug and melts me with those big brown eyes every day. And we can certainly understand why you wanted to keep these brothers together-they keep track of each other throughout the day. IâÂÂm lucky to be retired and get to spend most of the day with them. TheyâÂÂre sweet lap dogs when IâÂÂm reading or watching TV and wonderful helpers when IâÂÂm watering or pruning plants in the garden. And they love to be brushed every day and are so good with ear cleaning, baths and just lots of hugging and petting. Again, you can tell they have been loved. TheyâÂÂre thrilled when Steve gets home from work because that means dinner time and then our nightly walk. I had to laugh when you mentioned adventures, because every night is an adventure! IâÂÂm not sure if they didnâÂÂt get out on a leash before or just save up all their energy for the evening because it is âÂÂgame onâ when we head out in out neighborhood. Thank goodness they slow down after a few blocks because I donâÂÂt think we could keep up. They are super strong!!!! We really are so very lucky to have these sweet, funny boys as part of our family. Here are some recent photos, sadly I donâÂÂt have any of the 4 of us. Please feel free to share our happy adoption story as you see fit. We really are so grateful to GGBR for bringing Calvin and Clark into our lives. --D.K., 24Aug2023
Daisy Mae (Ukiah) Poking around on internet last December (2022), I found this "little nugget" as she was described on the GGBR Facebook page. In a little over a year, we had gone from a three-hound household to just one basset and 11-year old Gracie was really missing her siblings. I told Gracie she would be getting a new sister soon and that because Daisy was crate trained, I would need to set up a special bed for her. I hauled a crate up from the basement, cleaned it and furnished it with a nice pad. Gracie looked at me like, "where's mine?" So I set up another one to make her happy! New Years Day, little Daisy arrived. I brought Gracie in from the back porch and introduced her to Daisy and let the two of them roam the house, gave them a couple of the home-baked dog treats and by then, the rain had stopped so the two of them went to the back yard. I swear, this was the easiest introduction I've ever done!! It was as if they had known each other forever. After supper, I took Daisy for her first walk around the block. She saw a cat, lurched on the leash and I came home with a black eye, split lip and a fractured kneecap. Time for me to train myself - use both hands on the leash! My neighbors joke that I look like an escaped convict walking down the street with my hands shackled together!! I'm so happy with little Daisy, as with all of the many GGBR dogs I've had in the past 30 or so years, I've never had a "bad" one!!--L.B., 24Aug2023
Tipsy How happy are we as âparentsâ of 3 year old Spencer (left) and 5 year old Tippy (right), shown in this photo relaxing following a fun day of play after the annual GGBR Spring Fling. Tippy came to us several years ago surrendered by her loving parents who were not able to provide the care she needed for the glaucoma affecting her eyes. Following removal of her eyes, she lost her companion dog last summer to cancer and was very lonesome. Along came Spencer who was very loved by his owners who could not keep him due to housing issues. Tippy and Spencer bonded immediately and spend their days stalking squirrels together, parading around the neighborhood on walks with their âparentsâ receiving adoration from everyone they meet, and lounging on the terrace together in the sun. And did I already say, being totally loved by their parents??!__Mike and Sally M., August 23, 2023
Sally Sally is doing well. The vet guesses she is now approx 5 yrs old. She was found wandering along a rural road, presumably dumped, and spent a couple weeks in a shelter before we rescued her through GGBR. Since we adopted Sally, she was spayed and had some dental work completed since she had some broken teeth. (Vet thinks she likely was chewing on a chain). She loves her walks and is an excellent tracker (the best in 43 years of owning bassets). I think she could match a bloodhound! She puts herself to bed at 6 pm and is out for the night. She has filled a huge hole left by our dear departed Luke. We call her the Ethel Merman of basset hounds because she can really belt out her barks when she wants her walks! __C.P.
