Golden Gate Basset Rescue

About Us

Golden Gate Basset Rescue (GGBR) rescues Basset Hounds from abusive, abandoned and unwanted situations. We do NOT have a kennel or shelter so there is no one place to go and see our available dogs.

We were formed in 2005 after operating for nearly ten years under the Northern California Basset Hound Club. Today, GGBR is a 501(c)(3), not-for-profit organization. We exist solely on donations.

GGBR takes orphaned bassets into foster care, usually in volunteer homes, where they are loved and cared for until permanent, forever homes are found. We provide veterinary care, which includes necessary vaccinations, spaying and neutering, heartworm prevention, flea and tick prevention. We deal with serious medical issues while as much as funds allow. Our hounds are microchipped and registered to the adopter on completion of contract.  Our wonderful volunteers spend time with the dogs to evaluate them, deal with any behavioral issues, and restore them to full health with good food and love.

GGBR is tax-based in Petaluma, CA, but covers all of Northern California (see the map below). We can help to rescue and place dogs as far south as Monterey, Stanislaus and Tuolumne counties, as far north as the Oregon Border and as far east as Reno/Sparks/Carson City NV.   We are a proud, founding member of the West Coast BROAD (Basset Rescue Organizations Allied Division) and we work closely with our neighboring basset rescue organizations (see this page).

If you are looking for help with surrendering a basset hound or adopting one, and live outside our home area, please look to your local organizations first. We can help you find them if necessary (see the map below).

Please, browse the pages on this website. Learn about Basset Hounds. Check out the Useful Links page for other basset resources.  Make sure this is the right breed for you. If you already have a basset, learn how to care for it. Look for us on Facebook and ask questions. Sign up for emails using the box at the right or at the bottom of this page.  Then do one or all of the following:

Check back regularly, and welcome to the wonderful world of Basset Hounds!
