Jeeves

Barney (fka Jeeves) has come a long way since being with us. He is such a happy boy. He and Brody get along just fine. I can't thank you enough for him. Here is a photo of Barney. --Gail F. 28Aug2023

Olivia

Here are some pictures of Olivia who is known as Olive now. (From Corning with olives and goes with Willow as a "tree" theme.) We are so pleased with our experience with GGBR and Olive. She is a perfect match for us. Willow, our 9 year old was quite depressed when her best basset friend, Llola, went over the Rainbow Bridge the end of February. Now that Olive is here, the two of them play, run around our rooms in the morning like crazies doing the Basset500 and they go out roaming the yard as a team of Bassets each day. Olive is the sweetest and loves attention. We are calming her down with her exuberant greetings and teaching her scratching our bare feet isn't the only way to get our attention!! Otherwise, she is perfect. She fit right into our routine and seems to like our other animals, even the cats. Since we have only ever had Basset Hounds, we are obviously biased that Bassets are the best, even when they do "basset-things." The wonderful couple who fostered Olive provided very helpful and accurate information about her. They delivered her, which was not expected, and couldn't have been nicer. We have been texting some Olive updates since. After the approval process, it didn't seem to be very long until GGBR found us this wonderful addition to our family. We can't imagine her ever having been called a "stray" and are so pleased to have her in her forever home. Ron Inouye and Marti Denk, Stockton, 27Aug2023

Clark

Clark (right) was adopted along with his longtime brother, Calvin (left). Please see their Happy Tails story, below.

Calvin (Gilroy)

The boys are just wonderful! Steve and I were just saying how it feels like they have been a part of our lives for longer than 5 months. They’ve settled into our home so easily and were clearly cared for by their previous family. Calvin has a loud personality and loves to tell us all about the squirrels and other dogs in the neighborhood! And he’s very generous with his puppy kisses. Clark is a little more cautious around other people than we thought he would be, and he has every right to make that decision. But he is such a big love bug and melts me with those big brown eyes every day. And we can certainly understand why you wanted to keep these brothers together-they keep track of each other throughout the day. I’m lucky to be retired and get to spend most of the day with them. They’re sweet lap dogs when I’m reading or watching TV and wonderful helpers when I’m watering or pruning plants in the garden. And they love to be brushed every day and are so good with ear cleaning, baths and just lots of hugging and petting. Again, you can tell they have been loved. They’re thrilled when Steve gets home from work because that means dinner time and then our nightly walk. I had to laugh when you mentioned adventures, because every night is an adventure! I’m not sure if they didn’t get out on a leash before or just save up all their energy for the evening because it is “game on” when we head out in out neighborhood. Thank goodness they slow down after a few blocks because I don’t think we could keep up. They are super strong!!!! We really are so very lucky to have these sweet, funny boys as part of our family. Here are some recent photos, sadly I don’t have any of the 4 of us. Please feel free to share our happy adoption story as you see fit. We really are so grateful to GGBR for bringing Calvin and Clark into our lives. --D.K., 24Aug2023

Daisy Mae (Ukiah)
Daisy Mae (Ukiah)

Poking around on internet last December (2022), I found this "little nugget" as she was described on the GGBR Facebook page. In a little over a year, we had gone from a three-hound household to just one basset and 11-year old Gracie was really missing her siblings. I told Gracie she would be getting a new sister soon and that because Daisy was crate trained, I would need to set up a special bed for her. I hauled a crate up from the basement, cleaned it and furnished it with a nice pad. Gracie looked at me like, "where's mine?" So I set up another one to make her happy! New Years Day, little Daisy arrived. I brought Gracie in from the back porch and introduced her to Daisy and let the two of them roam the house, gave them a couple of the home-baked dog treats and by then, the rain had stopped so the two of them went to the back yard. I swear, this was the easiest introduction I've ever done!! It was as if they had known each other forever. After supper, I took Daisy for her first walk around the block. She saw a cat, lurched on the leash and I came home with a black eye, split lip and a fractured kneecap. Time for me to train myself - use both hands on the leash! My neighbors joke that I look like an escaped convict walking down the street with my hands shackled together!! I'm so happy with little Daisy, as with all of the many GGBR dogs I've had in the past 30 or so years, I've never had a "bad" one!!--L.B., 24Aug2023
