Velvet Attached are a couple of photos of Bella (we changed her name). She's a completely awesome puppy, not too hyper, intelligent (we've been going to obedience class and she learns really quickly), and very pretty! It's fun taking her places, because I always get tons of compliments from strangers on how attractive and sweet she is. She loves to run and play with other dogs (although going for walks is kind of a slow business sometimes, too many interesting smells to stop and investigate). She loves people, and she even gets along OK with our 2 cats. She rides in the car great and has already made 2 trips to my house in Tahoe, including her first snow (she liked it, especially when she figured out you could eat it). Thanks to GGBR for helping bring her into my life. Celeste
Macie MACIE and MAX were adopted together by a family who reports: I'm not quite sure there's a whole lot to say as far as a success story. From the day my partner and I picked them up and brought them home almost everything about having them has been relatively easy and natural, almost like they've always been here (even though its only been a year). I think because they were both adults that had already been trained, the whole process of them adapting to and fitting in to our household went very smoothly. Its amazing how different they are personality wise. Macie is cool, calm, and collected with a mind of her own and Max is a huge love muffin goofball who thinks he's a 70lb lap dog. As a friend of mine likes to say, "when these two adopted you, they won the doggy lottery". We definitely don't spoil them but to say that they want for absolutely nothing, including love and affection and a variety of treats that rivals Petco's, would probably be a fair statement.
Sweet Thang I'm attaching a couple of pics of Marley (formally Sweet Thang). She's been with us for a little over a year now and is fitting into our family quite well. John
Heidi Heidi came to me in May 2010 via the Sonoma County Humane Society and several GGBR volunteers who offered to transport her to me for foster care until she found a forever home. She was going to be the second dog I had fostered. Her age was thought to be about 8 and as it turned out she was heartworm positive, obese and a sick girl. After a 2 month long treatment course for heartworm where she was crated most of the time, you could tell when she began to feel better, a new puppy personality came out. Needless to say after having this little girl for two months I thought if she was good around the grandchildren, maybe I should keep her. That was the wrong thing to do if you really did not want a second dog. I had a dog Beuford a 7 year old with his own story. The grandchildren loved her. I adopted Heidi, a foster failure they called it. She lost the excess weight and as she got better she loved to go on walks, rides in the car and would sit and whine at me right along side Beuford. She and Beuford finally started to bond and her back was often a resting place for Beuford’s head (as evidenced in the attached photo). Everyone loved Heidi and she did not meet a person, dog, or cat that she did not love. She loved Buster the cat and would lick his face like it was her new puppy. Buster being used to dogs just took it until he had enough and would roll over and bat Heidi’s nose saying stop!! Heidi was such a nice addition to the house but it was to be a short stay. She died suddenly on 10/10/10 of Bloat. Although her stay was short, the last months of her life were filled with happy memories of camping, rides in the car, walks, good food, and comfy beds. My life was richer for it. See you at the Bridge, Virginia Tallman, Beuford and Buster
Nikko One family adopted three GGBR hounds in early-2010! This is the success story of these three lucky boys: Here are a few photos of our boys! (Front:) WALTER (Left) NIKKO (Rt) SEBASTIAN, he's the one with a pillow underneath!! It has only been less than a year since we've rescued these guys but it feels as if we've had them all our lives! How can anyone give up these guys as they are the most loving and loyal dogs I have ever met! It didn't happen over night, but eventually each dog picked who they want to be with the most. Sebastian is attached to my husband, Vince. Nikko is attached to my son, Christian who is 13. And of course, Walter is very much attached to me! We know that they have separation issues so it was very important, from the beginning, to show them all the love and attention they are looking for and they need; and to assure them they will not be abandoned again. Everyone's gotten used to their schedule and that they will tell you when it is time for "treats", "breakfast", and "dinner" they don't care whether it's Sunday morning at 7am they just know it's "breakfast!" As the saying goes, "THE INMATES ARE RUNNING THE ASYLUM" is how our house has become! If we only had a 10 acre home I would adopt every single one of them!! Maria K.
