Pumpkin

This is a story about JACK and PUMPKIN: (note Jack smiling at Pumpkin in the photo!) After we compromised between me wanting a little lap dog and Art wanting a horse-sized dog, we agreed upon our boy Jack. He was a great addition to our family. We did discover some separation anxiety when we were getting dressed to leave for work. After a few months of debating and looking we came across Pumpkin. She was very interested in Jack. He was more interested in protecting his food bowl and running over to eat hers too. After one initial bark and nip on the snout, Pumpkin stood up for herself and became queen of the couch. Our boy that always snoozed on the couch between us didn't stand a chance. She made herself quite at home. She started to wag her tail more. Although they didn't play together, the fact that Jack was not alone was enough to eliminate his anxiety. We were thrilled! Unfortunately our Jack died in his sleep last month while we were out of town. Pumpkin was very upset. So now Pumpkin gets a little upset when we leave. We are still debating about a pal for her, as she has had a very rough past. Judging by scars and a tattered ear, It looks like she was treated poorly by dogs and or people. As we are her 7th home since her life began 9 years ago, we are being as attentive as possible. We did start taking her to a doggy daycare a couple of days per week. The first day she was so exhausted that she barely made it through dinner before the snoring started! Those droopy ears and sad eyes bring us so much joy.

Lady Emma Ann

Emma is my third Basset, so you KNOW I like them! I went to pick up Emma on April 21, 2012, in Nice from the foster, Laurie Keene. Emma was so well-behaved from the beginning. The first time I took her for a walk, she heeled! (I had seen this demonstrated in various obedience classes over the years, but NEVER had a dog that would do it!) Recently Howard, Vernon McNamee's male Basset, stayed with us for a month while Vernon was in Brazil and the two dogs had a good time together. Bassets are such loveable, wonderful dogs and Emma is the best one yet! She did do a little counter-surfing at first so she soon trained us to keep things back from the edge of the counter! Just am so happy that I looked at Pet Finders and from there to GGBR to Emma! I feel so lucky to have her. She makes every day a delight!

Bo

BO'S STORY I PICKED BO UP FROM THE KING FAMILY IN MODESTO FOSTERED HIM FOR EIGHT WEEKS AND ADOPTED HIM IN SEPTEMBER 2014. HE A BASSET THAT IS TALLER THEN AN AVERAGE BASSET. HE IS SCARED OF EVERYTHING. BUT IS GETTING BETTER. HE GETS ALONG WITH OUR OTHER BASSET WHICH IS DISABLED. BO RUNS AND JUMPS AROUND THE HOUSE A VERY INTELLIGENT HOUND. HE HAD TO OVERCOME A LOT OF FEAR, NOISE'S FROM A CLOCK AND FROM AIRPLANES THAT FLY OVER. BO IS ADAPTING VERY WELL, AND IS WELL LOVED. IT WILL BE WHILE TILL HE OVER COMES ALL FEARS. HE IS A WELL BEHAVED BASSET,AND HE IS A WELCOME MEMBER TO OUR FAMILY. WE LOST DAISY JULY 3, 2014. THANKS TO THE GOLDEN GATE BASSET RESCUE WE NOW HAVE BO. THANKS MICHAEL AND JEAN PORRAZZO

Missy and Molly

Actually... the story of Missy and Molly!! “We fell in love with Missy, now named Abby, when we first met her. Smaller than your average Basset, an 8 year old tricolor with the saddest, sweetest eyes, it was apparent that she had a tough life. She was bred a lot and, judging by her hesitation around our teenage son, probably mishandled around teenage boys in the past. We also realized that even as she was getting used to us and our laid-back ways, she always seemed to be looking for another dog. Her foster family, Bate & John, noted that in their household, there were many other dogs around. Thinking that it would benefit Abby as much as it would benefit us (our 3 kids were competing against each other to spend time with Abby as was my husband!), we soon returned to GGBR to find another Basset to rescue us. From the get-go, we had only had eyes for Abby AND Molly, a 7 year old red and white. Shortly after adopting Abby, we met with Molly and Molly’s foster mom, Debbie. Abby and Molly have become best “sisters” since then. Without any effort at all, Molly seemed to help Abby in being more sure and assertive. While Abby still does not talk, Molly makes up for both of them, and we would not have it any other way. Much to Debbie’s misbelief, we actually encourage Molly to talk by talking back to her. Both girls handle being around not only our 2 legged family members, but our other 4-legged rescue, a 2 year old Maine Coon named Louie, who also believes he’s a dog. GGBR was the best thing to happen to us. No matter where the military may send us, we know that our family is now complete. Thank you to GGBR and to the whole GGBR family for doing what you do.”

Lizzie

As you can see things are going very well at the Street household. Toby, the freckled boy on my legs, came to us from the Amador County Animal Shelter via GGBR in May 2012. He is a true lap basset and the most wonderful companion. He loves everyone and loves to play. Because of his joy with other dogs, we decided to adopt another. Lizzie came to us via GGBR in October 2013. She is an older lady, but also loves to play. One of our favorite pastimes is to watch the basset wrassle dance between them. One can also watch them as they dig through their toy box for just the right toy to chew or throw around. Lizzie has been cautiously but enthusiastically learning about lap time; the photo is of the first double ever. Both love to eat (what basset does not?) and enjoy their walks every day.
