Pumpkin

This is a story about JACK and PUMPKIN: (note Jack smiling at Pumpkin in the photo!) After we compromised between me wanting a little lap dog and Art wanting a horse-sized dog, we agreed upon our boy Jack. He was a great addition to our family. We did discover some separation anxiety when we were getting dressed to leave for work. After a few months of debating and looking we came across Pumpkin. She was very interested in Jack. He was more interested in protecting his food bowl and running over to eat hers too. After one initial bark and nip on the snout, Pumpkin stood up for herself and became queen of the couch. Our boy that always snoozed on the couch between us didn't stand a chance. She made herself quite at home. She started to wag her tail more. Although they didn't play together, the fact that Jack was not alone was enough to eliminate his anxiety. We were thrilled! Unfortunately our Jack died in his sleep last month while we were out of town. Pumpkin was very upset. So now Pumpkin gets a little upset when we leave. We are still debating about a pal for her, as she has had a very rough past. Judging by scars and a tattered ear, It looks like she was treated poorly by dogs and or people. As we are her 7th home since her life began 9 years ago, we are being as attentive as possible. We did start taking her to a doggy daycare a couple of days per week. The first day she was so exhausted that she barely made it through dinner before the snoring started! Those droopy ears and sad eyes bring us so much joy.

Pineapple

How lucky are we? Very lucky! After loosing our beloved Basset Hound Roxy at age 13 ½ we called GGBR and let them know that we hoped sometime in the near future we would like to welcome another Basset into our lives. Because we rescued our Roxy with the help of Gloria so many years ago, we knew everyone would work hard to find us the right match. Low and behold, just after New Year’s we received a call about adopting a 7 month old girl. Sunny (originally named Pineapple) came into our lives and brightened our hearts. She is sweet, kind and wonderful with children. She is still very young so she has a bit of growing to do to fill out her big paws and long ears! She smiles a lot at the dog park when she chases the large and small dogs. Sunny has an occasional desire to nip at our feet (especially if we are wearing socks) but we know she will grow out of this habit as she matures. We’re already signed up for training and can’t wait for the Fourth of July Parade – a tradition we shared with Roxy many years ago when she was young. Life without a basset hound is just not living. We feel very lucky to have her in our lives. We wish to express our gratitude to the previous owner, Gloria, Sally and Donna and all the others who give their time and energy to ensure that the Golden Gate Basset Hound Rescue is a wonderful resource. Thank you, The Rossi Family

Penny

Miss Penelope Pitstop is a lucky gal! Although she was abandoned by her family and lived as a stray for months, she was rescued last summer by the wonderful folks at Golden Gate Basset Rescue. She was thin, dirty, and very sick. Veterinary examination revealed infections in her uterus, lungs, bladder, and teeth. The Golden Gate board members saw a real spirit in this small basset girl and longed to give her a second chance. After $1,000 worth of surgery and recuperation at a loving foster home, Penny was ready to venture out into the wide world again, although she didn't much trust people, shied from their advances, bolted at loud noises, and wouldn't look folks in the eye. She has come a LONG WAY! She is now the sweetest, stubbornist, happiest gal ever! She loves to meet other dogs, is entranced by cats, lives with two chickens she thinks are fascinating, and she loves to take walks and roll in the long, cool grass. She has brought her Mama so much joy in the last 8-1/2 months! She is truly a wonder!!! Miss Penelope Pitstop - Best Rescue Story Ever!!! (Penny was adopted in October 2007)
