Introducing Miss Gracie, a young 4 yr. old female special needs basset hound. Miss Gracie had a rough start in life with her first two years spent in an abusive home. Gracie is considered a special needs girl because she needs a home that is male free, as she has a deep seated fear of males that she may never overcome.

When Gracie first came into my home as a foster, she was timid and scared of the typical everyday noises that we take for granted. In the months she has lived with me she has blossomed and learned that not every noise she hears is going to cause her harm. She has gained confidence and has gone from a shy basset to a playful girl who can be very energetic at times. She loves long walks and can go for miles. Gracie gets along with other dogs and cats.  She will give chase if a cat runs, but once she gets to know them and the novelty has worn off, you will find she will share her bed with them.

As I said, she does very well with females of all ages but will shy away and hide from men in the house.  She may approach males outside and appear friendly but there is a wariness always present. When she is first on the leash she will pull as she is excited to be going.  We have been working on this but it is a slow process. She is also a bit grabby when she is given treats with other dogs present. I usually remove her to a separate space, as she has 4-5 others she feels she has to compete with in my home.  There are times that she is perfectly gentle when taking treats. Gracie does like to chew remotes. I have come to believe that almost all bassets have a love for remotes.  Don't let her affinity for remotes scare you off, she is a very loving girl. Gracie loves to snuggle and have her belly rubbed.

Gracie's perfect home would be all female, one that would accept and love her for who she is, would celebrate her successes and never expect more from her than she is able to give.  A Furever Home that will continue to help build her confidence by giving her reassurance and praise. A home with a confident furry companion would be perfect as she loves to play. Gracie is a very sweet girl who can be touched all over and never complains. She is a girl that is easy to love and she will still your heart.

Are you the perfect family that Gracie needs and deserves?  She is waiting just for you.
