Maggie is one of the intake dogs we rescued from SouthFork Kennels in December 2009. When we rescued her she was skinny, filthy, and looked like she had just weaned a litter of pups.  She was scared & unsure of everything. She has now put on weight, is spayed and her confidence is building everyday. This little Basset has the heart of angel. For all that she has been through in her life not once has she ever growled, snarled or even shown teeth. When she came to us she did not even know what a belly rub was. Imagine a Basset not knowing how good belly rubs are! NOW you touch her and she will fall over!!!!!! It does make it difficult to clean her ears...LOL!  Maggie is crate trained, house trained, and has her foster parents trained very well. She is the easiest Basset to care for that ever was. All this little girl wants is to forget the life she had & relish in the life that is about to come.

Unfortunately all the years of neglect have taken a toll on her. Maggie has glaucoma in both eyes & according to the Veterinary Opthamologist Specialist she will never be able to see. The pressure in her eyes make them look larger than they actually are. At this point the pressure is manageable through 2 pills 2X a day and 1 drop in each eye 2X a day. As long as the medication is administered diligently, and she gets regular checks, she should be able to keep her eyes.  Although not being able to see once she has learned the lay of the land, she can be a little speeding bullet. Especially when it is feeding time!!!! Maggie is a little Diva when it comes to food. She likes green bananas (not too green, but not too ripe), apples, some melon depending on the day. She is doing very well on her leash as long as you are patient with her. Coaxing & reassuring her she will follow you anywhere. When its time to go to bed, all you have to do is say let's go nite-nite and she will get into her crate and wait for you to cover her up with her blanket. This very SPECIAL little girl will capture your heart the minute you meet her.
