Golden Gate Basset Rescue rescues Basset
Hounds from abusive, abandoned and unwanted situations. We do NOT have a kennel or shelter so there is no one place to go and see our available dogs.
We were formed in 2005 after operating for nearly ten years under the Northern California Basset Hound Club. Today, Golden Gate Basset Rescue, Inc. is a 501(c)(3), not-for-profit organization. We exist solely on donations.
Golden Gate Basset Rescue takes orphaned bassets into foster care, usually in volunteer homes, where they are loved and cared for until permanent, forever homes are found. We provide veterinary care, which includes necessary vaccinations, spaying and neutering, heartworm prevention, flea and tick prevention. Our hounds are microchipped with 24PetWatch.com microchips, and when adopted out come with 30 days gift insurance cover courtesy of ShelterCare. Our wonderful volunteers spend time with the dogs to evaluate them, deal with any behavioral issues, and restore them to full health with good food and love.
Golden Gate Basset Rescue is based in Petaluma, CA, but covers all of Northern California. We can help to rescue and place dogs as far south as Monterey, Stanislaus and Toulomne counties, as far north as the Oregon Border and as far east as Reno NV. We are a proud member of the West Coast BROAD (Basset Rescue Organizations Allied Division) and we work closely with our neighboring basset rescue organizations (see this page).
If you are looking for help with surrendering a basset hound, or adopting one, please look to your local organizations first. We can help you find them if necessary (see the map below).

Check back regularly, and welcome to the wonderful world of Basset Hounds!
See our "Other Rescue Organizations" page for more information about our California Rescue partners, but this map may be useful to you in deciding which group you need to contact:
NOTE: Basset Rescue of Central California (http://www.bassetcentral.org/) has unfortunately decided to take a break from Rescue until some time in 2010. They were covering Fresno, Madera, Mariposa, Mono, Merced and San Benito (southern part) Counties - if you live in these areas please contact Golden Empire Basset Rescue (http://gebr.org) (They are NOT giving up Rescue completely, just need a break to regroup)
