Meet Pocket!  GGBR’s own “Bagel”!  Pocket appears to be a beagle/basset mix but has many wonderful basset traits!  She was a stray found in Fairfield CA – no tags or microchip.  When the shelter staff brought her out to her foster family, her foster mother exclaimed “You are so small you could fit in my pocket!” hence her name!  Pocket is 19 lbs and vet thinks she’s about 2 years old.  Most of the time she acts like a basset but does have separation anxiety common to beagles.  She has the most wonderful colored coat and beautiful freckles including one large one on her chest.  She is up to date on all her shots, has just been spayed and her heartworm test was negative. She is a sweetie who loves nothing more than to snuggle with you night and day.  She walks wonderfully on and off leash, comes when called, sits on command, uses the doggie door and loves to ride in the car.  She is getting along well with the other dogs at her foster home, especialy the big black lab that she loves to snuggle with.  She would like the cats to run so she can case them while baying after them like a hunting dog but they stop so Pocket just washes their faces instead.
Pocket would do best in a home where someone is home all day so she doesn’t get sad when she is left alone (which she does even when left for just five minutes). Another dog would be fine with her too and even a cat if the cat is dog tolerant.  Small or large children are not a problem, but if there is a lot of in/out the door activity with people coming and going, Pocket will want to go too and will do flat basset when you try to close the door and leave her behind – somehow that 19 lbs will instantly become 59 lbs when you try to move her.
Pocket’s foster mom is working on her habit of sleeping near her person’s head and shoulder (she was affectionately nicknamed “GoPro” when she stayed with some folks for a few days since she likes to be up near your head like a GoPro helmet camera!) and is starting to have some success with Pocket sleeping at the foot of the bed or on a pillow next to the bed.  She is so small she is easy to scoop up and carry around on your shoulder but that is another habit we are working on breaking her of!
For a small dog, Pocket can jump pretty high being able to leap up on to the couch, bed and over the baby gate with ease but not into the car – go figure.  She loves to carry soft toys around but will chew up hard plastic things like reading glasses, coat hangers and toilet brushes.
Pocket would love to meet you if you are interested in meeting her and possibly giving her a forever home!  She will need a while to adjust once she does go to her forever home, so patience and a loving lap to sit on are required!
